Unsurprisingly as the summer's got underway I’ve been flat out fishing at every available opportunity and so haven’t found any time to update my blog, so first off I’ll apologise if you’ve been checking in for updates, but I’m sure you understand.
Well as usual it’s been a busy start to the year for me as I’ve been out and about on several waters already, as you may have read. Once the weather starts to warm up however, I like to make plans for a spring assault on somewhere away from the crowds and this year has been no exception. I originally had two waters in mind that were relatively local to my home, both of which hold a big fish so I started to sneak over to each at dawn for a look and a cast about to identify an area to bait.
I must admit it its been a long time since I savoured the arrival of spring to the extent that I have of late . Every day I've been out on the bank taking in deep lungfuls of fresh air and really enjoying my fishing time. Thankfully, little Honey our daughter has reached the age where she can attend nursery for the afternoon and this means that I get my third night back as I’ve been restricted to two nights a week over the last year, so this will make a huge difference to my fishing for the rest of the year.
After my little flirtation with the canal and with the arrival of the big thaw I decided to get back out on the lake I had been dabbling on. The lake itself is shallow and contains a big stock of carp, somewhere in the region of 300+ fish with quite a few big fish amongst them up to 40 pounds. Early in the year when the water temperature is still around the low 40,s this lake really is the best option as it offers the very best chance of getting a big fish early in the year during conditions where a large percentage of other , deeper waters are yet to respond.
Its been a horrible winter for sure but that hasn’t deterred me from getting out whenever possible and ive enjoyed some great sport even when all the lakes around the country were frozen solid!.
