Ian McCormack & John Openshaw joined Clive Robson and the team from Northumbrian Water for a breezy day up in the beautiful moorland location occupied by Derwent Reservoir. First opened in 1968, the reservoir is a key part of the water supply network for the North East of England and is one of the most popular trout fisheries in the UK. A combination of wide open spaces, combined fly and bait fishing and the chance to catch specimen fish up to 15lbs have made this venue extremely popular with anglers far and wide.
All the current Sonik fly tackle was on show and available for people to try out together with a sneak preview of some new rods and reels for 2010, for which there was a lot of interest. Clive Robson did a sterling job, offering free casting tips and tuition to interested parties. The way he can shoot a full line with one false cast with the SK3 rod outfit is proof that top notch fly gear needn’t cost the earth. All in all, a most enjoyable day was had by all concerned and we would recommend the Derwent Reservoir to anyone who wants peace, scenery and great fishing.
