The weather gods must have taken favour with the organisers of this event as the first real glorious weekend of the British summer produced clear blue skies and warm sunshine for most of the time. As far as outdoor show settings go, Burghley House takes some beating and ranks amongst one of Europe’s most outstanding and important family estates. Built and mostly designed by William Cecil, Lord High Treasurer to Queen Elizabeth I, between 1555 and 1587, the whole estate is set in 1,500 acres of beautiful countryside near Stamford (http://www.burghley.co.uk).
The Angling area was somewhat separated from the main event due to proximity with the estate lake, which holds a good head of Bream, Carp, Tench and Pike. Attendances were reasonable, especially on the Saturday. Sonik took pride of place in the main angling arena, with fly, carp and sea rods all on display and available to try out.
A most impressive array of angling celebrities gave a tremendous variety of fly and coarse fishing demos on the estate lake, topped by 4 X Coarse World Champion, Bob Nudd catching several huge bream to over 10lbs on the pole (see his blog http://bobnudd.com/blog). We must give credit to Tim Gaunt Baker for organising such a great selection of angling personalities to entertain visitors to the show. Sonik Sports enjoyed a highly successful event and will definitely return in 2010.
Come down to the Test Valley Game and Angling Fair on August 22nd-23rd for what promises to be a super event by the same organisers (http://www.livingheritagecountryshows.co.uk). We would be delighted to meet you!
