Coyle Water in Ayrshire and Swannswater in Stirling both hosted Sonik Demo days recently, with each event well attended and lots of interest in the rods, reels and lines on show. The casting competitions, both accuracy and distance proved very popular with one angler at each event winning both legs. At Coyle, it was Kevin Andrews who stole the show, out casting his competitors for both distance and accuracy, whilst at Swannswater it was young Charles Devine who did the same, both anglers winning Sonik fly lines for their efforts...
Over the last thirty years, the TroutMasters competition, run by Trout Fisherman magazine, has established a reputed name for itself amongst the thousands of fly fishermen that take part each year – so the chance to become headline sponsor made perfect sense for Sonik Sports to become involved with the event and the fly anglers who compete.
The first Sonik ‘Open Day’ was held at Higham Lakes in Northumberland, how did the lads get on?
"Fish were feeding all over the place, sipping the spring seasons first freshly hatched insects from the water’s glassy calm surface. An area the size of a football pitch close to the bank that I was walking was simply alive with fish. This got my heart pumping to an alarming pace, and at that particular moment I really wished that you are allowed to fish from the bank in Loch Shiel - a rule that I have never understood. That aside, I had a bigger problem; I didn't have my rod with me!"
Shaun Cumming took the long journey south to Wiltshire, where Manningford Trout Fishery promised some exciting action. We think the photographs speak for themselves!
