As a Sea Angler magazine casting instructor, I had a chap come for
a lesson having just bought the NCT beach rod in 5oz. This is the best
fishing rod that I have picked up and it cast like a dream.
With this in mind, i am toying with the idea of changing from my beloved
Zziplex to a pair of NCT rods. Phil Roberts about NCT shore rods.
SONIK SK4 Sea Rods
Used my 12/20 Sonik SK4 to tame two double figure cod in quick succession. Plenty of spring in the tip to take the pressure off the braid but still loads of grunt in the butt to haul these predators through 200 feet of water. Steve Parker. About SK4 SEA RODS.
SONIK SK3 Bass Rod & SK4 Sea Rods
The SK3 12ft 6" bass rod is an amazing rod, casting and bite detection are top notch. Bass, flatties, codling, coalies all came in no probs. I cant stress how much I love Sonik rods!! I have 2 SK4 14ft sea fishing rods that have never let me down, no matter where I fish, beach or thick weed. Amazing allround rods, bite detection is amazing, casting ability is excellent, adding yards to my casting out of the box. I'm looking at getting a Sonik fly rod for trout and one for salmon, as well as some clothing to match my caps and fleece beanie hat!
Cheers to the Sonik team! John Chisolm. About the SK3 Bass and SK4 Sea Rods.
SONIK NCT shore rods
Report on my NCT. I used a 7HT Mag about 6" from the butt loaded with 12lb line. I tried weights from 100 , 110 & 125 grammes. I use light weights because of arthritis in my hand. The rod is very easy to load and you stay in contact with the weight at all times.
The wind was brisk SSE, so slightly in my face. I found it very easy to put a clip down rig out well over 130 yds plus. The beach was flat, hard packed sand so that was ideal. A younger and fitter person with decent technique could hit over 200yds on grass with ease.
My colleague loved the rod but he had the same trouble with the conditions as I did. The joy of the rod is not only does it cast well it also fishes well and sits in the rest without doing a 'Noddy Dog'. You could hold this rod all day without fatigue. I was also using my 16' SK4 with the reel about 15" from the butt and I think that I still managed go a few yards further with this.
The consensus of opinion is that the NCT is a brilliant bit of kit and with a bit more familiarity I will get some impressive distances. I the only thing I (we) reflected upon that a three piece 15-16 ' version would be a 'bit tasty'.
